Hola Muchachos! Here’s the story of Good People Muchacho Mexican Style Lager, a fine beer indeed from the Good People brewery of Birmingham, Alabama. I had a mug at Taco Mac in Canton on a fine Sunday afternoon, and it was delicious. Of course, there was some confusion at first. I was watching my New England Patriots play the Miami Dolphins, and enjoying my beer. I ordered the Muchacho, a beer arrived before me, and I took a sip.
Wait a minute! That’s not the Muchacho. Now, I had never had the Muchacho before, but I had had the Good People Pale Ale, and that’s what the bartender had poured. The manager assured me they only had one Good People tap (the app said two, I asked them to double check). The very thought of it! Why the day a guru of brew can’t tell the difference between a pale ale and a Vienna lager is the day he or she needs to hang their hat up. Sure enough, my server (who just happened to be my daughter) returned with the correct beer. By which time I had already drunk a fair portion of the pale ale. Hey, they were just going to dump it anyway. Bonus!!!
There is not much information out there about Good People Muchacho Mexican Style Lager. It does not appear on the Good People website. Untapped says it has an alcohol content of 6% by volume. I paid $5.75 for a 23-ounce mug at Taco Mac. Taco Mac says the following, which comes from the label:
Only the easiest drinkin’ Mexican-style lager known north of the border that’s what. Crisp, clear, and tasty, this good hombres is muy bueno when chilling at cookouts, ball games, and fiestas.
My mug of Good People Muchacho Mexican Style Lager arrived a beautiful golden copper color with a medium sized fluffy head and a lightly toasty nose. Taking a sip, the beer hints at Vienna malts with a smooth malty and nutty toasty character and a slightly dry hop finish.
Loved it! Mexican lagers (read: Vienna Lagers) are very popular these days, and this is a solid one, flavorful and quaffable.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
