Golden Road beers are featured as Beer of the Month for May 2018! That means I can add at least one Golden Road glass to my collection (I don’t have any!) this month. The first up was Golden Road Hefeweizen which I enjoyed on Thursday, May 3rd. Golden Road calls this a classic Bavarian-style hefeweizen, a style I very much enjoy.
German hefeweizen is a particularly refreshing style in the spring and summer. The crisp, crackery wheat and spicy clove and banana notes typical to the style offer flavor and refreshment. For me, my mug of Golden Road Hefeweizen was particularly satisfying, as it was the 6000th unique beer I have catalogued on my beer spreadsheet. Go me! On to 7000…..
From the website:
Golden Road Hefeweizen is a Bavarian-style wheat beer. It has hints of banana and clove on the nose and palate from the German yeast, a medium body, and a smooth, crisp finish that will leave you thinking about lounging in a sun soaked beer garden. Prost!
Ingredients, from the website:
Malts: Malted Wheat, Dextrin, Crystal Light, 2-Row
Hops: Bravo
Golden Road Hefeweizen has an alcohol content of 5% with 13 IBUs. Hopheads take note: this style should be low in hop bitterness. I paid $5.75 for a 23-ounce mug at Taco Mac and it runs $9.99 a six-pack in cans. I got a free logo glass with my draft. This is a year-round offering from Golden Road.
My mug of Golden Road Hefeweizen arrived a hazy golden color with a thick fluffy white head and crisp wheat and a hint of banana in the nose. Taking a sip, I got tart crackery wheat in the palate, good banana and clove notes, the latter emerging more in the tart finish.
I found Golden Road Hefeweizen to be a solid Bavarian style hefeweizen at a fair price. Would I buy it again? That’s a big “Ja!”.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
