Golden Road 329 Lager! That’s what Taco Mac called it. It was May of 2018, and Golden Road beers were featured as beers of the month. Golden Road calls it something a little different on their website and the package, Golden Road 329 Days of Sun Lager. Either way, it’s an easy-drinking pilsner beer that won’t offend.
Golden Road calls it a lager, which is true, but that’s like calling a stout an ale. Lager and ale are the two main types of beer, but there are numerous styles in those categories. This one seemed to me as a pilsner, if a fairly innocuous one.
Golden Road says on their website:
Crafted in the city that gives us 329 days of sun, 329 Lager is the perfect companion for making the most of sunny California days. Our go anywhere, do anything lager is full-flavored and easy-drinking with a clean, crisp finish.
Ingredients, also from the website:
Malts: 2-Row, Pilsner Malt
Hops: Bravo, German Tradition
Golden Road 329 Days of Sun Lager has an alcohol content of 4.8% by volume with 18 IBUs. I paid $5.75 for a 23-ounce mug and that came with a free logo glass. You can get it for $8.99 a six-pack in cans.
My mug of Golden Road 329 Days of Sun Lager arrived a pale golden color with a thick fluffy white head and not much going on in the nose. Taking a sip, there’s a smooth clean maltiness that is at least adjunct-free with a balanced but not noticeable hop finish.
This would be OK to wean friends off macro lager perhaps, but for me, I would pass on it in favor of a Victory Prima Pils or Konig Pilsner. Still and all, it washed down chips and queso quite nicely.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
