Blueberry Field Party Blonde Ale
Review Date 10/21/2024 By John Staradumsky
I was in Helen, Georgia for their annual Oktoberfest celebration, and as I am always wont to do, I stopped at Alpine Brau Haus Bottle Shop for some wonderful German beer. Alpine also stocks local Georgia brews, and they always have beers from Valdosta’s Georgia Beer Co, on hand. I was looking to buy some, as the brewery recently took a hot from Hurricane Helene and I wanted to support them. The beer I was looking for was their Saint Helen’s Oktoberfest, but seeing none of this, I picked up a six-pack of Blueberry Field Party Blonde Ale.
Blueberry Field Party is a fruited version of their Field Party Blonde Ale, brewed with local Georgia blueberries. Here’s what they say about the beer:
Georgia soil is ideal for blueberries. Our short winters give them just the chilling they need, and our long and sunny summers provide the perfect weather to enjoy them. That’s why Blueberry Field Party was built for warm Georgia summers. Cool off with this fresh variation of our traditional Field Party Ale.
I’m not so sure that Georgia’s conditions described above are the best suited for the cultivation of blueberries. As an old New Englander, I am very familiar with Maine blueberries, which are just as delicious as those grown here. That state, of course, is well known for short summers and long and cold winters. That said, I can say blueberries grown well in Georgia, since I have them growing in my own backyard here.
Georgia Beer Co. Blueberry Field Party has an alcohol content of 5% by volume and I paid $11.99 for my six-pack at Alpine. My cans are stamped canned on 08/01/24.
Georgia Beer Co. Blueberry Field Party Blonde Ale pours to a bright blonde color with a medium spritzy head and a bright fruity nose. Taking a sip the beer is crisp biscuity up front and pops with luscious blueberry fruit. It finishes not at all sweet but balanced with a gentle hop bitterness.
A worthy companion to that other great Georgia blueberry ale, Sweetwater Blue. I can think of no higher praise than that.
Glad I tried it? T
Would I rebuy it??
