Today while beer shopping I decided to pick up a few cans of
brews from regional and larger brewers thta I had not previously tried. The
most memorable of these was Genny Summer Brew from Genesee in Rochester, New
York. I only noticed the beer in cans, and at $2.99 a sixpack it seems a
relative bargain. The label proclaims it a lager flavored with honey, and
places it in the pilsner style. While I not surprisingly found it to be not
nearly hoppy enough to qualify as a pilsner, it is a quaffable, thirst
quenching brew with enough flavor to make one reach for another.
Genny Summer Brew is pale golden in color with a fair
sized if short-lived foamy head. The nose is dominated by green apple-like
aromas, and though a hint of this aceteldehyde is detectable in the palate,
it is not overly distracting . The beer has enough malt body and honey
flavor to make it interesting. A light refreshing beer for a hot summer
evening.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
