Take it Easy Berliner Weisse

There I was at Taco Mac Prado, and their Secret Stash Bash 2018 had just concluded. What to do now while we waited for our ride home? Head right over the Five Seasons, of course. A beer fest and a brewpub all in one night, and a very short walk apart. What’s better than that? Probably something, but I was having a ball just the same.

After sampling all those heavy imperial stouts (many of them barrel aged), I wanted something that could cut through the remnants of roast and licorice in my mind’s palate. Something not heavy on alcohol, either, as this was the nightcap. Five Seasons to the rescue with Take It Easy Berliner Weisse.

From the Five Seasons website:

A light wheat beer that is clear golden pale in color.  Its slight tart character and effervescence make this a thirst quenching Summertime favorite.  This style was dubbed by Napoleon as the Champagne of the North.

Five Seasons Take It Easy Berliner Weisse has an alcohol content of 4% by volume and I paid $5.50 for a pint.

My tall schooner of Five Seasons Take It Easy Berliner Weisse arrived a hazy yellow color with a fluffy white cap of foam and an intense sourness in the nose. Taking a sip, the beer is smooth and easy drinking with tart wheat. A puckering sourness defines the beer.

All in all, a very good example of the style indeed. After all the beers I enjoyed at the Secret Stash Bash, Take It Easy Berliner Weisse still stands out in my memory of the night. Much better than the Spätzle my kids told me I ate. That I don’t remember, although Five Seasons Spätzle is excellent.

Glad I tried it?  T

Would I rebuy it??
