805 Blonde Ale

Review Date 04/01/2020 By John Staradumsky

Well, well. There we were in Nevada, Laughlin to be exact. We were on vacation wandering through various casinos, restaurants, and breweries. At this particular moment, I was in the Pioneer Hotel & Gambling Hall, and of course the first thing I always do before hitting the slots is to hit the bar and check out their craft selection. At this moment, that meant a pint of Firestone Walker 805 Blonde Ale.

805 Blonde Ale is Firestone Walker’s unpretentious, humble, basic everyday drinking beer. It has enough flavor to satisfy a seasoned beer drinker like me, but it’s unobtrusive enough to be enjoyed by American lager drinkers. It was perfect indeed for the hot late may weather in Laughlin. Hey, at least it was a dry heat.

Firestone Walker says:

805 is a light, refreshing blonde ale originally created for the laid back California lifestyle, at 4.7% ABV this easy drinking beer can be enjoyed anywhere.

Anywhere indeed. Well, almost anywhere. I enjoyed it in Laughlin, but you can’t buy it (or any other Firestone Walker beer) in Georgia. I paid $5.50 for my pint, and sipped it while playing Ghostbusters slots. I won $100! Yay me! Total Wine sells this in California in an 18-pack of cans for $19.99 or a case of bottles for $25.99.

Firestone Walker 805 Blonde pours to a, well, blonde color with bready and biscuity malts in the nose and the palate. It finishes gently bitter, just enough to balance. A decent blonde ale, par for the course, judged for its style.

If beers like this are your thing, you’ll always be a winner with 805 Blonde Ale. I know I enjoyed it, and that’s all that counts.

And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
