Every Day, Once a Day, Give Yourself an IPA

It was Father’s Day, and we were having fun. My son’s were over with my grandson Neil, and we were shooting off fireworks. The wife was cooking on the grill. And I? I was drinking beer. But what beer to drink? Why, one I had just picked up a few days before that I really wanted to try:

Evil Twin Every Day, Once a Day, Give Yourself an IPA.

That’s a great name for a beer, and what an old friend of mine would call great marketing. “Now that’s marketing!” he might say. But, being that is was Father’s Day and all, I might tweak that beer name slightly.

Every Day, Once a Day, Give Yourself an IPA…and Maybe Twice on Father’s Day?

Errr, but not of this one, though. As we shall soon see. Anyway, there is not much information I could find about this beer. It is not listed on the Evil Twin website. My can is stamped as Batch #001. It was brewed for Evil Twin at Two Roads Brewing in Stratford, CT. It is described on the can as a Double Dry Hopped India Pale Ale Brewed with lactose and Vanilla Extract Added. I paid a ridiculous $16.99 for four pint cans at Stout’s Growlers, but I was afraid it would be gone before I could get to Total Wine where it is $3 cheaper. Every Day, Once a Day, Give Yourself an IPA has an alcohol content of 9% by volume.

Evil Twin Every Day, Once a Day, Give Yourself an IPA pours to a hazy yellow colored with a moderate head of foam and a citrus rind and vanilla nose. Taking a sip, the beer is creamy in body from the lactose and vanilla, then grapefruit citrus emerges, and the beer finishes less bitter than I expected but warm with alcohol. Especially for a double IPA.

Meh. This one did not really work for me. The vanilla and lactose did not gel with the hops and seem a strange combination. Will I drink it again? I have three more cans to further reflect on. Still, not a beer I am  likely to buy again at the price.

Glad I tried it?  T

Would I rebuy it??
