The Emerald Isle Brew Works has since it's inception in 1994 produced cask-conditioned ales exclusively. That changed however in the Spring of 1997 with the introduction of Emerald Isle Ale, an English style brown served on a nitro-tap system similar to the one Guinness employs.
Deep brown in color, the beer has a smooth, creamy white head that lasts as long as it takes one to drain the glass. The nose is rich and fruity with just a hint of malt. The palate is most pleasant with a subtle roasted malt character appropriate to the style. The show is soon stolen, however, by an attack of fruity yeast esters: pear, apple, orange. A wondefully bitter hop celebration explodes in the finish, and a lingering hop presence on the tongue reminds one that a first class brew has just been quaffed. Most impressive!
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
