Hey Elevator Brewing Company of Columbus, Ohio! Your webpage is down! Well, the home page works, but not much else. I’m here to talk about Elevator Horny Goat Bourbon Barrel Aged Porter, you see, and I was just doing a little research on it. Did you get sued by Horny Goat Brewing? Oh wait, I guess not, your page is back! And what a nice webpage it is. I now know that this is a seasonal beer, sold in 4-packs of bottles and on tap.
OK, let’s see what the label has to tell us:
About the brewery:
Founded in 1999 by a father/son beer drinking team in a small-town grain elevator, we are now into our second century of brewing award-winning beer with as much passion as you put into enjoying each pint.
And the beer:
We had to wait three months to bottle this big porter, every day going into the cooler, every day giving each oak barrel a hug. But you don’t have to wait. Crack open a bottle today for this rich, robust full-bodied ale with dark roasted character and hints of vanilla. This beer was brewed to reward you for what you do each day to help make this world go around.
Elevator Horny Goat Bourbon Barrel Aged Porter has an alcohol content of 7.5% by volume with 30 IBUs. It’s not sold here in Georgia, but I got a bottle from the Beer Professor himself, Dave Coulter. My bottle was packaged on 12/13/15 and I drank it on Juy 17, 2016.
Elevator Horny Goat Bourbon Barrel Aged Porter pours to a dark brownish to light black color with a towering head of rocky tan foam and a big boozy bourbon nose. Taking a sip, the beer has a medium body with heady notes of chocolate, vanilla and toasty oak along with an infusion of boozy bourbon. It finishes dry with warm alcohol notes and a bit of roast.
A very, very nicely done barrel aged porter, it has a little of everything I want here. It’s smooth, delicious, and boozy throughout. It’s a beer I would buy for sure the next time I’m in Ohio. If you happen to see it, you should buy it too.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
