Einbecker Brauhaus AG, Einbeck Germany.
Deep brown color, light head formation, malty and slightly skunky nose (damn green bottles!). Rich, nutty-malty body is chewy with a subtle chocolate character. Warming mouthfeel, 6.5 % alcohol by volume. Good balancing slightly grassy hop bitterness. A nice beer but I think I prefer the Maibock.
Update 8/24/2014: What took me so long to revisit this wonderful beer? No skunk on the nose this time folks, just earthy grassy hops and luscious malty caramel. Sipping, the toasty nutty melanoidins are rampant here, along with the underlying caramel hallmarks of a classic "single" bock. This beer is delicious, and decoction runs all through it's veins.
Einbecker says of the beer:
A dark beer with a rich, strong and delicate malt flavor.
At the first sip it is smooth and full-bodied, at the second sip the true rich, strong roasted malt aroma of Einbecker Ur-Bock unfolds. The dark barley-malt brewed refreshment from the Einbecker original recipe
Who knows bock beer better than Einbecker? Nobody, I say. Don't miss it, even if it is a little pricier at $3.29 a bottle these days.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
