Lost in the Forest India Pale Ale Brewed with Spruce Tips
Review Date 12/27/2024 By John Staradumsky
Spruce tips! They had me at spruce tips! I just love spruce beer, you see, but I don’t see it that often. So, when I was unexpectedly shopping for beer after Christmas and saw a 4-pack of Edmund’s Oast Lost in the Forest India Pale Ale brewed with Spruce Tips, a 4-pack of that sucker went right into my cart. Now, I say I was unexpectedly shopping for beer because I had sworn I was all done buying beer for a while, well into 2025 was my train of thought.
Then, though, my team got me a Total Wine gift card for Christmas and, such things burning a hole in my pocket, I headed off to spend it, and the rest is history. I got lost in the forest as it were with Edmund’s Oast.
Edmund’s Oast says:
A late afternoon walk has gone longer than expected. As the sun sets and shadows shift, something (maybe it was there the whole time) is following, and suddenly it’s hard to imagine a worse time to have gotten Lost in the Forest.
Cloudy amber fumes of winter forest and citrus peel emerge from the depth of this burly IPA. The alchemy of hops and spruce tips have yielded something unexpected, something fierce yet ephemeral.
They list Chinook Cryo and whole leaf Centennial hops being used in this beer.
Spruce adds a unique aroma and flavor to beer. Classic American hops of the 4 C variety (Centennials and Chinooks among them) are often said to impart piney-resiny notes to beer, but spruce takes that a step further. It certainly does in this beer.
Edmund’s Oast Lost in the Forest India Pale Ale brewed with Spruce Tips has an alcohol content of 7.5% by volume and I paid $14.99 for my 4-pack. My cans are stamped 11/04/24.
Edmund’s Oast Lost in the Forest India Pale Ale brewed with Spruce Tips pours to an orange amber color with a thick fluffy white head and a nose of orange citrus and piney spruce. Taking a sip, the beer is medium in body with caramel malt underneath, and I love that. The orange juice citrus is immediately present, and then the piney spruce. It really pops and lingers all the way into the balanced but not really bitter finish.
A liquid Christmas tree! I loved this one and will be sure to buy it again. You should try it, too. After all, it’s sure to spruce up your day.
Glad I tried it? T
Would I rebuy it??
