Duck Foot Wookie Roar Amber Ale

Grrroworrrr! I swear I heard that when I saw Duck Foot Wookiee Roar Amber Ale for sale at Craftshack.com. Hey, I love Star Wars, and I love beer, so in the cart a can went. Virtually speaking, of course. This would be my first beer from the Duck Foot Brewery of San Diego, California.

There’s no information about this beer on the brewery website, but the can label says this is a limited release. It also says:

Originally released on May the fourth, Wookiee Roar has become a fan fave. Much like your favorite heavily modified Corellian light freighter, Wookiee Roar has a heavy payload of sweet and toasted caramel malt -yet has a nimble hop bill that can smuggle a light citrus flavor to your palette like a jump through hyperspace.

Duck Foot Wookiee Roar Amber Ale has an alcohol content of 5.7% by volume. I paid $4 for a pint can from Craftshack, no other pricing is available. Normally, I eschew(bacca?) non-beer glasses in my beer photos, but for this one I broke out one of my late 70s Burger King Star Wars glasses. I’ve had these since they came out. I didn’t drink beer yet on those days.

Duck Foot Wookiee Roar Amber Ale pours to a deep amber color not unlike that of Chewbacca’s fur. A white head as thick and fluffy as wookie fur and a nose of soft cookie-wookie malts and piney hops are also present. Taking a sip, the beer has a delightful maltiness of caramel, toasted nuts, and cookie-wookie malt with a balancing gently piney, slightly citrusy hop aroma. Finishes balancing bitter to slightly more than that.

This is a lovely drinkable beer that I wish I could get on a regular basis. It’s all about the malt, but doesn’t forget the hops. If you see it, buy it. Oh and, ummm, if you’re ever judging this at a beer festival? Let the Wookiee win.

Glad I tried it?  T

Would I rebuy it??
