Drowned Valley Citra IPA

Something old, something new! That’s what I found at the Drowned Valley brewery in Cartersville, Georgia. The first new thing I found here was the brewery itself; this was my first visit, and my first time trying their beers. I lived in Rome for a few years when I first moved to Georgia in 2001, and oh how I would have loved a brewery in nearby Cartersville in those days. Rome, to be fair, has a brewery too now, River Remedy brewing.

The first old thing I found here was a Nissan forklift! It was in the production area of the brewery where we entered from the parking lot. I drove one exactly like it from 1985 to 1990 working for Stanley Bostitch in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. Those were the days, some of the early days of my enthusiasm for beer. Not the earliest mind you, but early all the same. I have fond memories of sitting on that forklift on my breaks and downtime, reading All About Beer magazine or one of Michael Jackson’s books and looking forward to a beer after work. Sometimes, I would sneak a König Pilsner at lunchtime with my dear departed friend Jim, or we might head to the local pub for a Bass Ale after work.

Such wonderful memories.

Thanks, Drowned Valley, for recalling those memories, and for the delightful Citra IPA I enjoyed as my first beer here. I don’t have a lot of information on the brew, other than that it has an alcohol content of 6.5% by volume and is obviously brewed with Citra hops. I paid $5.99 for a pint, a very reasonable price indeed these days.

Drowned Valley Citra IPA pours to a bright orange color with a thick fluffy white head and a nose of robust citrus. Taking a sip the beer is medium in body with a hint of caramel malt, then bursts with citrus and a hint of pine into the ling dry bitter finish.

A very tasty beer indeed, and one I enjoyed very much. Drowned Valley I can assure you that I’ll be back.

Glad I tried it?  T

Would I rebuy it??
