Beer to Drink Music To? I’ll drink to that. I like beer, and I like music after all. So, I ordered up a glass of Beer to Drink Music To ’17 at Taco Mac. This was Brewniversity Credit 999, the last beer I would drink as a Brewniversity Dean. The next beer would make me a Chancellor! First, though, there was the Beer to Drink Music To.
Dogfish calls this beer Our music-inspired Tropical Blonde brewed with kiwi juice & hibiscus flowers. Isn’t that special. It’s a February through May release, though I drank mine in June. This is the second release of this brew, though I missed the 2016. Dogfish says the following about their Beer to Drink Music To ’17:
Music has been a part of Dogfish Head since before Dogfish Head. So it’s a natural fit for a brewery that makes ‘Analog Beer for the Digital Age’ to be the Official Beer of Record Store Day, a celebration of the unique culture of record stores and the special role they play in their communities.
Dogfish Head Beer to Drink Music To ’17 has an alcohol content of 6.8% by volume with 30 IBUS. The price is a bit out of tune if you ask me; I paid $8 for an 11-ounce glass at Taco Mac and it runs $13.99 a six-pack in bottles.
My glass of Dogfish Head Beer to Drink Music To ’17 arrived a bright pinkish amber in color with a fluffy white head and a soft malty nose offering herbal hibiscus and fruit. Taking a sip, I got a smooth creamy maltiness in the palate, vibrant kiwi fruit, vanilla, herbal flowery notes all leading into to the gently bitter finish.
While I found this to be quite the tasty beer that would pair as well with a Beethoven symphony as something more modern (dare I suggest Pink!?), I have to say the price leave the whole idea a bit off key. A fruity blonde ale is tasty indeed, but not the kind of beer to command these crazy high prices. Though I’m glad I tried it, I think I’ll Drink My Music to something more reasonable, thank you very much.
I’d give it 4 stars on its own merits, less a star off for the price.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
