Flash Cat Imperial IPA

Hello Kitty! My kids like that. I’m not so familiar with this Japanese cartoon character, but tonight I’m saying hello to a kitty of another kind: Flash Cat Imperial IPA from the Creature Comforts brewery of Athens, Georgia. I picked up a stovepipe can of this beer recently at Everest Spirits in Kennesaw.

Creature Comforts says:

Flash Cat is an 8.0% Imperial IPA with big tropical vibes and a silky smooth smile. Brewed with Columbus, Citra, and Galaxy hops, it presents an aroma of tropical fruit, citrus, and melon, with a balanced bitterness and medium body.

It does definitely pop with the tropical and to a lesser degree, citrus. It reminded me quite a bit of a bigger, stronger version of the brewery’s flagship Tropicalia IPA. The beer has an alcohol content of 8% by volume and no IBU count is listed. Remember IBUs? Hardly anybody lists their IBUs anymore. This is a year-round selection and my can is stamped 02/25/25 and 05/25/25 on the bottom, the canning date and recommended best by date. I paid $2.99 for my 19.2 ounce can. Total Wine sells it for $13.99 a 6-pack of 12-ounce cans. The stovepipe is actually the better price per ounce.

Creature Comforts Flash Cat Imperial IPA pours to a hazy yellow orange color with a thick fluffy white head and a nose of soft tropical fruit. A thick layer of Brussels Lace forms on the sides of the glass and follows the liquid all the way to the bottom. Taking a sip, the beer is light to medium in body about what I expect in the style these days. It’s tropical fruity as the nose promised, and even at that a little light. I get some pineapple and mango and there’s citrus, too, light tangerine. Finishes balanced with a gentle hop bitterness and hint of warming alcohol.

Tasty enough, if nothing new, but a deal at the stovepipe price, and it is indeed dangerously drinkable. I would definitely buy it again, and I may just do that soon. This is a featured beer of the month at Taco Mac for May.

 Glad I tried it?  T

Would I rebuy it??
