Creature Stout

Review Date 7/21/2020   By John Staradumsky

Sunday, June 21st of 2020 was Father’s Day, and my wife (who had already bought me some very nice presents) told me to pick out some crowlers of beer as well. That was the day before, you see, as Stout’s Growlers here in Canton is not open on Sundays. Still, far be it from me to countermand my wife, and so I did as she was told. One of the crowlers I bought was Creature Comforts Creature Stout, a coffee stout from this legendary brewer from Athens, Georgia.

I am fortunate to live in the same state where Creature Comfort resides. I have easy access to their beers, in bars, growler shops, liquor stores, gas stations, and at the brewery. I was fortunate enough to enjoy the work of founder David Stein when he was head brewer at Twains Billiards and Tap. I can’t recall a beer that I have not enjoyed from Creature Comforts.

Here is what they say about Creature Stout:

Join us for the release of Creature Stout (8%). This luscious, roasty, and delicious coffee stout was made with Colombian La Victoria coffee from our friends 1000 Faces Coffee.

Creature Stout will be available on draft & to-go in 4pk 16oz cans.

This was the first time for me trying this beer. I paid $11 for a 32-ounce crowler at Stout’s.

Creature Comforts Creature Stout pours to a jet-black color with a minimal head formation on a vigorous pour straight from the crowler. The nose is rich and roasty with black coffee and coffee grind notes. Taking a sip, the beer is medium in body with rich roasty notes and more of the black coffee and coffee grinds the nose promised. Caramel pops up and it is luscious in its contribution here. The beer finishes roasty bitter with some grassy chicory and is just a tad warming with alcohol.

I’ll be back for more of this one, Creature Comforts.

And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
