A big shout out to my friends Jamieson Comer and her husband Dave Hofius! They went to Athens, Georgia, and dropped by Creature Comforts Brewing Company. Not only did they go, but they brought me back beer! What’s better than that? Two 4-packs of rare Creature Comforts brews to be precise, the delightful Stone Ground Pilsner and the one I’m here to tell you about today, Calculating Infinity Pale Ale.
This is a special, limited release from Creature Comforts and I’ve never seen it (nor the Stone Ground Pilsner for that matter) in my beery travels. Creature Comforts says:
We are excited to release our next small batch of innovative beer which was developed by two of our extremely talented brewers, Griffin Hans and Zachary Schroeder.
Calculating Infinity is a Crushable Pale Ale….made with Pacifica, Wakatu, and Palisade hops. The name was inspired by an album both brewers listened to growing up.
I had never heard of that album, but a little research on the internets reveals it was released in 1999 by the band The Dillinger Escape Plan. Calculating Infinity the beer has an alcohol content of 5% by volume and comes in 4-packs of 16-ounce cans and draft.
Creature Comforts Calculating Infinity Pale Ale pours to a hazy yellow straw color with a thick fluffy white head and a luscious orange citrus and honey dew melon nose. Taking a sip, the beer has a medium maltiness appropriate to a pale ale with citrus fruit and tropical pineapple. A grassy bitter finish rounds the beer out nicely.
This is definitely crushable as all the flavors are subtle and complement each other well. It’s a fine beer to enjoy on a warm Sunday afternoon in July, which is exactly what I did.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
