Adam West Coast IPA

Batbeer! Nah nah, nah nah, nah nah, nah nah Batbeer! Maybe you think I’m crazy but, hey, I got a can of batbeer! Yes I did! I got it from CraftShack online beer store I’ll have you know. I didn’t go there looking for it specifically, but as I was browsing beers to add to my cart, there it was. I’m talking about Adam West Coast IPA, a beer brewed by Creative Creature Brewing from El Cajon, California. This is the second beer I’ve tried from these folks.

I for one have always been a Batman fan, and grew up on reruns of the classic 60’s camp TV series. I met Adam West and Burt Ward (can he get a beer named for him as well, CC?) at a car show in Providence, Rhode Island. They were both great people, and I wish I could find my autographed photo that I treasured for so long.

Back to the beer. I couldn’t really find any information on the beer on the brewery website or their facebook page, but craftshack had the following description.

Adam West Coast IPA. An unfiltered ipa that is juicy like a hazy but packs that classic west coast bite.

Creative Creature Adam West Coast IPA has an alcohol content of 6% by volume and I paid $5.39 for my can from CraftShack. I do not know what the beer retails for at the brewery or in stores in California.

Creative Creature Adam West Coast IPA pours to a hazy yellow color with a medium sized fluffy head of foam and a citric grapefruit peel nose. Taking a sip, the malt is light to medium but the grapefruity citrus notes are intense: rind, pith and fruit all come together here. A balancing bitterness lingers gently and leaves me wanting another sip.

This is definitely a juicy IPA in the New England style, but I can see where West Coast hops impart the classic grapefruit aromas and flavors. Unlike many examples of the style I am seeing of late, the bitterness has not been ramped down. I like that. I like this beer, too. Were good old Adam West still with us today, I’m sure he would keep a can or two of this one in his utility belt.

And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
