Marine Dream IPA

Review Date 11/16/2018  By John Staradumsky

Hey there, Bruguru! What’s wrong with you??? You’re drinking that can of Coronado Brewing Marine Dream IPA from a Tennessee brewery beer glass! Have you lost your mind? I may have, in fact, dear reader. For some reason, I thought Marine Dream IPA was from a Tennessee brewery; I bought it at Wild Hare Beer Company in Spring Hill, TN, after all, and they do feature mostly local beers.

Still and all, they carry beers from other states, too, so I don’t know what I was thinking. I saw a can in the singles section, and I bought it. My first choice is to drink a beer out of a glass from the same brewery as the beer; failing that, I’ll shoot for the same state or country. I should have had this one from a California glass; I didn’t.

Coronado Brewing has been in business since 1996, but as far as I can tell this is the first beer I’ve ever had from them. It’s an entry in their “Art Series” of beers.

They say on the can label:

Marine Dream IPA is brewed with oats and London III yeast for a smooth mouthfeel and hazy, New England-style appearance.  Citra, Mosaic and Vic Secret give this beer a bright, tropical profile with a lingering juicy fruitiness.

Coronado Brewing Marine Dream IPA has an alcohol content of 6.5% by volume with 50 IBUs. It runs $10.99 a six-pack at Total Wine. I lost my receipt so don’t know what I paid for my single.

Coronado Brewing Marine Dream IPA pours to a very cloudy orange color with a thick rocky head and a vibrant juicy citrus and tropical fruit nose. A thick layer of Brussels lace forms on the sides of my glass, descending with the liquid all the way to the bottom. Taking a sip, the beer bursts with orange and grapefruit juice notes, pineapple, and passion fruit. It’s smooth and silky on the palate and finishes slightly bitter with herbal minty notes.

Coronado Brewing Marine Dream IPA is juicy from head to toe, and though I’d like a little more malt it’s not thin in body. One of the better examples of this style I’ve had lately, I hope to see it in Georgia. I’d love more of this wonderful beer.

And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
