Tecoh's Cerveza Mexican Style Lager

Review Date 5/27/2024 By John Staradumsky

Every year, I look forward to the Clown Shoes 12 Beers of Christmas holiday sampler pack, and every year, I am not disappointed. The holiday season of 2023 was no exception, and I gladly forked over my $29.95 at Total Wine in November, happily placing the 12-pack in my cart.

May came around, and I noticed that I still had a can of Tecoh’s Cerveza Mexican Style Lager in my office beer fridge. The bottom of the can was stamped Best By 01/31/24, so this was a little past due, but I had kept it refrigerated almost the entire time I had had it. So we would see. Besides, it was a warm May evening, and although it had been cloudy while I was working, it hadn’t rained at all.

Errrr, hadn’t rained at all until I poured my beer and took a few sips. I had got myself situated out on the patio, which for me takes a bit of work. I of course bring out my beer and corresponding glass, but also my Surface tablet, digital camera, cell phone, and Bose Bluetooth speakers, which I can pair in stereo. Who wants to listen to great music while drinking beer in mono? We don’t go backwards.

Anyway, I brought all that stuff back into the house when the rain started, and finished my beer inside.

Clown Shoes says:

Tecoh’s was inspired by the Cerveza that this legend tasted from across Latin America, brewed using the most premium ingredients to create a bright, slightly sweet, and refreshing lager to be enjoyed post-fight or post-anything.

Tecoh’s Cerveza Mexican Style Lager has an alcohol content of 5.4% by volume. Tecoh is a town in the Mexican state of Yucatán. It is home to Mayapan, where the Temple of Kukulkan is located. The temple is on the label of Tecoh’s Cerveza Mexican Style Lager. Kukulkan is a Mayan god. Was the rain Kukulkan’s revenge for not drinking this beer sooner? Perhaps it was.

Tecoh’s Cerveza Mexican Style Lager pours to  a bright golden orange color with a moderate short lived head of fizzy foam and a nose of fresh biscuit malt and toasted nuts. Taking a sip, the beer is medium in body, apropos to the style. It’s smooth and drinkable, again biscuity and a little nutty as the nose promised. It finishes balanced and quenching, and about average for the style. That style generally ranges between a pilsner and a Vienna Lager. This one leans more to the pilsner category in my opinion.
