That went fast! I’m talking about the first half of my Clown Shoes 12 Beer of Christmas holiday sampler. Today’s treat is Bubble Farm IPA, beer number 6 in the assortment. There are more IPAs in this sampler than any other style, but not as many as there could have been, given the penchant of most breweries for the style. That’s not a knock on those breweries, it’s just a fact. We as drinkers want IPAs these days, so they give us IPAs. That is how the free market works. Anyway, I popped my can open and read the description on the Clown Shoes website: The Intergalactic League of Farmers waits for no man, even with a crop as delicate as bubbles. Elegant crops, of course, and no matter the trouble in harvesting them it’s always worthwhile to see those beauties shine. Light in color with a touch of haze, this American IPA maintains an approachable medium-body without sacrificing any of the full aroma and flavor of copious dry hopping additions of Simcoe, Azacca, and Idaho 7 hops. They also use Mosaic hops according to the page for this beer on the Clown Shoes website. It is available year-round and is not exclusive to the sampler. Bubble Farm IPA has an alcohol content of 6.5% by volume and I paid $30.99 for my sampler, though I saw it later at Sherlock’s for six bucks less. My can is stamped as best by 1/31/21. Clown Shoes Bubble Farm IPA pours to a hazy orange amber color with a thick fluffy white head of foam and an inviting earthy herbal hop nose. Taking a sip, the beer is medium malty and infused with more of the earthy herbal hop notes the nose promised. I get a touch of tropical fruit too (pineapple, just a touch), and tangerine citrus, but more of the lovely grassy herbal notes. The beer finishes bitter and grassy. Delightful! I love the earthy aromas the dry hopping imparts here, and I am indeed very happy that this beer is not a one-off. Where would I rate this one in the 12-pack so far? I just love the hops in this one, so judged to style but also hedonistically it will displace Clown Shoes Pecan Pie Porter and become the new champion beer so far.
