Here’s a tasty “American IPA” with a little extra to while away those summer nights wherever you find yourself: Champion Malibu Nights American India Pale Ale. If by American IPA they mean classic citrusy West Coast IPA, then I think Champion is onto something here, folks.
From the label:
This bright pink IPA is brewed with tangerines and hibiscus for a crisp and refreshing taste, and dry-hopped with Citra and Amarillo for big fruity aromas.
Champion Malibu Nights American India Pale Ale has an alcohol content of 7% by volume with 45 IBUs. It is not sold here in Georgia but I got a can from beer legend Chuck Triplett.
Champion Malibu Nights American India Pale Ale pours to a pinkish red color with a thick fluffy head of foam and pronounced tangerine and grapefruit in the nose. Taking a sip, the beer has solid caramel malt up front and lots of bright citrusy tangerine orange and grapefruit notes. The flowery hibiscus clearly comes through and a hint of malty toastiness as well. The finish is dry with a moderate bitterness and more of the pulpy tangerine flavor.
Champion Malibu Nights American IPA just bursts with citrus fruit, both from the hops and the tangerines. It’s quite the refreshing brew, and one I would buy again.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
