This weekend, my wife and I decided to take a trip to Cape Cod, and since Hyannis is the home of the Cape's sole brewpub, we made it our destination. The atmosphere is pleasant with an expected nautical theme, and as it was a Monday evening I had no trouble finding a seat at the bar and getting a sampler. The first selection, Chatham Light, lived up to its name all to well. This ale almost approached a domestic lager in blandness, with just a touch of maltiness which served to keep it a bit above that category in flavor but no discernible hop finish.
Any of the beers here are available for take-out in growlers at $10 each, but
must be ordered a day in advance. I brought home two of the Nantucket Red
myself. Besides their own beers, the pub carries other New England drafts,
which at my visit were Otter Creek Copper Ale, Ipswich Ale, Seadog Blonde
Ale, and Shipyard's Old Thumper. All in all, if you're on the Cape, I'd
say this pub is worth a stop.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
