Here are some (kinda) scary words:
In the United States, Brooklyn Naranjito is only available as part of the 2017 Brooklyn Box Set.
The good news is that that is only partially true. In bottles, you see, Brooklyn Naranjito Pale Ale Made with Orange Peel is only available as part of the 2017 Brooklyn Box Set. On tap, it’s all over the place here in Georgia for the month of April. Two Brooklyn beers (the other being Brooklyn Lager) are co-featured as Beer of the Month along with two from Anchor Brewing, a classic east coast brewery and a classic west coast brewery. What’s better than that?
Anyway, I ordered up a foamy draft mug of Brooklyn Naranjito on a Thursday night in April (pint glass night!) and got a nifty Brooklyn lager glass with it, no extra charge. I loved the beer so much that I order it again on June 5th, Chancellor Day as it shall henceforth be known. That was the day I hit my 1000th beer at Taco Mac, and Brooklyn Naranjito became only the second beer I enjoyed out of my spiffy new Chancellor mug.
From the Brooklyn website:
From the city’s fine restaurants to the beloved tamale lady outside our Brooklyn brewhouse every morning, Mexican food is a staple of life in New York City. Brooklyn Naranjito was brewed with some of our favorite dishes in mind. We put the pop of citrus that graces some of our favorites into a beer with a helping of sweet orange peel in the brew kettle. The vivacious fruit lends a burst of juiciness, a fresh, ticklish aroma and a decidedly refreshing finish to this American pale ale. It’s amazing what a little orange (naranjito) can do.
Ingredients, from the website:
Malts: American 2-row, Crisp, Carafoam
Additions: Sweet orange peel
Hops: Summit, Simcoe
Yeast: Our House Ale Yeast
Brooklyn Naranjito has an alcohol content of 4.5% by volume and I paid $5.50 for a 20-ounce mug (and later a 23-ounce mug) at Taco Mac.
My mug of Brooklyn Naranjito Pale Ale with Orange Peel arrived bright orange in color with a medium sized head of creamy foam and citrus and herbal hops in the nose. Taking a sip I get caramel malt meeting bright bitter citrus rind and grassy hops at the last. The beer is really infused with orange zest flavor, and that makes it very refreshing indeed. Ohh I like it!! You know you want one now, and orange you glad you read this review?
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
