If you’re lucky in life, you’ll never get a mugshot. Who wants their picture taken by the police after all? You might get a different kind of mugshot, though, as in a Mugshot Coffee Cream Ale from BrewDog. I recently got one of the latter from Total Wine, and much prefer it to the former.

I popped my can as the first beer of the evening one fine September Sunday while watching my beloved New England Patriots play the Cincinnati Bengals. I broke a taboo doing this, as I wasn’t thinking about BrewDog’s Columbus, Ohio plant when I drank the beer. That’s where my can was made, and I never drink a beer from the opposing team’s home state during the game. Well, almost never. The Pats one, so it all worked out, but clearly I must be more careful in future.

BrewDog says:

The only Mugshot we're excited to get. Ringing in at 5.2%, this coffee cream ale has aromas of chocolate and cereal with robust notes of sweet toffee and a smooth creamy finish. It's moderately sweet, gently bitter, and criminally good.

BrewDog Mugshot Coffee Cream Ale has an alcohol content of, well, they just told you above, so I don’t need to. I paid $2.99 for my 12-ounce can, and it was selling for $13.99 a six-pack at the time. My can was stamped CANNED ON 12/05/23.

BrewDog Mugshot Coffee Cream Ale pours to a pale straw color with a faint hint of coffee with cream in the nose. Taking a sip the beer has a light cream ale maltiness with a hint of adjunct. There’s a touch of coffee but just a touch, light caramel, and a hint of sugar that shows up in a gently sweet finish.

This beer was too sweet for me, and could have used more coffee notes. It was average at best (but still better than the other kind of mugshot). Add to this the high price, and this is not really a beer I am likely to buy again.
