Really short beer review folks: Breckenridge Ophelia Hoppy Wheat. Breckenridge beers were featured as Beer of the Month for February at Taco Mac, but I never did try the Ophelia. It was still on tap on March 2nd so I ordered up a mug of this hoppy wheat ale brewed with fruity Mosaic hops.
From the website:
A tale of two styles. The quintessential good girl gone mad.
Subtle hints of citrus round out the complex aroma of Mosaic hops, for a beer so drinkable, it’ll last through multiple acts.
Breckinridge Ophelia Wheat has an alcohol content of 6% with 23 IBUs. This is a seasonal release though Breckenridge does not say what the season is on their website. I paid $5.50 for a 20-ounce mug at Taco Mac and Ophelia runs $10.49 a six-pack in bottles.
My mug of Breckinridge Ophelia Hoppy Wheat arrived a cloudy golden orange color with a solid fluffy head and soft passion fruit in the nose. Taking a sip, I get a smooth, slightly crackery wheat palate, lots of passion fruit and melon, and a tart wheat finish.
All in all, a solid American wheat with Mosaic hops, and for me a beer that would serve better in June or July than March.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
