Hello, friends, and welcome to another exciting episode of “Pint Glass Night” at Taco Mac. Tonight is Thursday, February 9th and I’m sipping a mug of Breckenridge Mango Mosaic Pale Ale, since, well, this month’s featured brewery is Breckenridge. I ordered up a mug and, I should tell you, so did my daughter after taking a sip of mine.
Breckenridge Mango Mosaic is a fruit beer if you ask me, which you obviously did or you wouldn’t be reading this. It showcases the tropical fruity Mosaic hop variety and complements it with real Mango fruit for a super-fruity tropical juicy delight. As a result, the pale ale character is lost on me.
From the website:
Mosaic hops naturally give off aromas of guava and mango, lending a unique sweetness to the hop character of this pale ale. To build upon the tropical attributes of the hops, we've added a healthy dose of mango. Mango Mosaic Pale Ale is a well-balanced montage of fruit flavors, fresh aromas, and refreshingly crisp goodness.
Breckenridge Mango Mosaic Pale Ale has an alcohol content of 5.5% by volume with 29 IBUs. I paid $5.75 for a 20-ounce mug with a free pint glass. It runs $10.99 a six-pack in bottles.
My mug of Breckenridge Mango Mosaic Pale Ale arrived bright orange amber in color with a thick creamy head and mango, passion fruit and melons in the nose. I get the same on the palate, the mango being more predominant there, with a little caramel malt and a balancing bitter finish. It's not cloying but this is almost too fruity for me, literally like fruit juice but beer, not so much.
I might drink it again on a hot day I think, but not at $10.99 a six-pack. Jessica disagrees, however, and says she certainly would drink it again.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
