When I ask respectable beer geeks to name some of America’s oldest operating craft breweries, I hear names like Anchor, Sierra Nevada, and Boston Beer-all the time. When I add, though, that Boulder, Colorado’s Boulder Brewing Company should be counted amongst them, I often get looks of surprise. It’s true, though. Boulder, Colorado’s first microbrewer, opened in 1980 with a 6 barrel brewhouse. I still recall to this day buying Boulder Porter circa 1984 in Rhode Island.

Anyway, that was all going through my brain as I clouded it with a mug of Boulder Pulp Fusion Blood Orange IPA at Taco Mac. This is a blood orange IPA to be precise, IPAs brewed with said fruit tending to be very popular these days. To me, they’re sometimes IPAs, and sometimes fruit beers. This one seems more IPA-like (as we shall see), and hey, I drank it on IPA day. So an IPA it shall be.

Boulder says:

Boulder Pulp Fusion Blood Orange IPA has an alcohol content of 6.5% by volume with 52 IBUs. I paid a very reasonable $5.50 for a 20-ounce mug at Taco Mac, and it runs $9.99 a six-pack at Total Wine.

My mug of Boulder Pulp Fusion Blood Orange IPA arrived a glistening light orange color with a thick head of creamy foam and a bitter citrus rind nose.Sipping, there’s fresh crystal malt in the palate, juicy lush blood orange, bitter orange peel and a vibrant grassy hop finish.

Another great beer from one of Americas oldest craft brewers! I like it and you will too.
