Orctoberfest

Do orcs celebrate Oktoberfest? I’m sure I don’t know; you’d have to ask J.R.R. Tolkien. If they do, I have the perfect beer with which they can enjoy it: Orctoberfest Festbier Lager from the Bottle Logic brewing Company of Anaheim, California. Kudos to Bottle Logic for the nifty name and play on the Oktobefest name. And who doesn’t love orcs anyway?

I couldn’t resist this beer when I saw it for sale on Craftshack.com. Truth be told, I snapped all the Oktoberfest and pumpkin beer fall seasonals and added them to my cart on this go-round, but the slick marketing of having orcs sell your Festbier would have put this one over the top even if I weren’t on the prowl for fall brews. The label didn’t say much about the beer, and I couldn’t find any information on the Bottle Logic website, but Craftshack did say this about it:

Traditional German-Style Festbier built on Barke Pils, Vienna, Munich 1, Caramunich, and Acidulated malts and hopped with Magnum, Tettnang, and Mittelfruh hops. Malty sweetness with a hint of toast met by a soft, balanced bitterness.

But what about the orcs? Bottle Logic Orctoberfest has an alcohol content of 6.8% by volume (a little higher than normal for the style). I paid $3.92 for my can, and that is the only pricing information I have. Usually, beer will run a little higher on Craftshack by the single, but not always. There is no freshness dating on the can. If you're wondering about my glass selection for this beer, I don't have a Bottle Logic glass (yet). Normally, I would select a glass from another brewery in the same state, but I just got this beautiful Geary's 10th Anniversary glass and I had to christen it. So there you go.

Bottle Logic Orctoberfest pours to a bright golden color with a thick fluffy head and a nose of fresh bready malt. Taking a sip, the beer is as fresh bready in the palate as it is in the nose. It’s oh so gently toasty, and finishes balanced with a gentle grassy hop buzz-kiss.

This is really a Delightful Festbier, and I just adore the fresh bready malt and the balancing hops in the finish. It is for sure one of the better examples of the style you will find-if you can find it. The orcs, apparently, know something about beer, and are rather particular with what they celebrate with.

Glad I tried it?  T

Would I rebuy it??
