Well isn't this fun? Here I am adding a beer review to good old Bruguru.com for a beer that I tasted back in August of 2008. No, I certainly can't remember back that far, but I did find my tasting notes scribbled on the back of a coaster from Nashville's Flying Saucer, where I drank the beer.
Anyway, the beer is Bluegrass Brewing Company Nut Brown Ale and the brewery said this about it in March of 2016:
An old favorite returns! Nut Brown Ale has its roots in England and its heart in the Bluegrass. NBA is brewed with a careful blend of six malts, is light brown in color, and medium bodied. The flavor is malt with hints of chocolate and caramel. We use Nugget and the finest UK East Kent Golding hops to round out the malt. No nuts were harmed in making this beer!
Bluegrass Brewing Company Nut Brown Ale has an alcohol content of 5.5% by volume with 28 IBUs, also per the website.
Just in case you can't read my chicken scratch in the photo, I'll decipher.
Bluegrass Brewing Company Nut Brown Ale arrived light brown in color with a soft creamy head formation and sweet malty, hoppy nose. Taking a sip, the beer is lightly chocolaty with notes of toasted nuts and husky grain. This all leads slowly into a pleasant bitter finish.
I called this an American Brown, so it would have been hoppier than an English nut brown. I gave it four stars at the time. Would I buy it again? I certainly would-as long as I had a coaster handy for note taking.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
