Buenos Tiempos Mexican Style Lager

Review Date 3/6/2021 By John Staradumsky

Queue Ric Ocasek: *Let the Buenos Tiempos roll*….OK, I had to do that because that song (Let the good times roll) floated through my head when I popped my can of Belching Beaver Buenos Tiempos Mexican Style Lager. That’s because Buenos Tiempos means good times, right? Everybody knows that.

Rest assured, the good times will be flowing when you pop a can of this easy drinking yet flavorful Mexican-style lager. This is more of a pilsner in my book, yes, but a Mexican themed one akin to Corona Extra or Dos Equis Special Lager.

Belching Beaver says:

Can we just say, we love Mexico! The food, the culture, and the beer. We challenged our brewers to come up with a great Mexican-style lager and they did a Dam good job. Crack this open, throw in a lime, sleep on the beach, have a great time!

Belching Beaver Buenos Tiempos Mexican Style Lager has an alcohol content of 4.8% by volume and I paid $3.93 for my can from Craftshack. Total Wine sells this for $10.99 for a 6-pack of pint cans, and that is a price that you just can’t argue with.

Belching Beaver Buenos Tiempos Mexican Style Lager pours to a pale golden color with a light fizzy head that fades as quickly as it forms and a nose of light biscuit malt. Taking a sip, the beer is light bodied and crisp malty, clean, and finishes balanced with a gentle grassy hop bitterness. Stack this up against a Corona or a Does Equis lager and you can’t go wrong. Overall, I would give it 4 stars for the style, and tack on an extra half star for the very reasonable price.

When I think of Mexican lagers, I think of two styles really: Vienna Lager and pilsner. This one fits into the pilsner category.

And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
