Haze Whiz Hazy India Pale Ale

Review Date 6/7/2021 By John Staradumsky

“Did you get me my Cheese Whiz boy?”. Extra credit if you get the movie reference, but if the film had been made by the Barrel Brothers brewery of Windsor, California it might have been different.

“Did you get me my Haze Whiz boy?”. Yes, Haze Whiz Hazy India Pale Ale is a play on the classic Cheese Whiz canned cheese snack, and the label a parody on it as well. Is this then a pasteurized processed American beer food? No, but it is a tasty hazy New England IPA that I very much enjoyed.

Barrel Brothers does not have any information on Haze Whiz on their website, but I can tell you this from the label:

2 Row, Pale Malt and Flaked Oats combine to become a delightfully opaque sauce perfect for dipping loads of juicy Mosaic, El Dorado and Eukanot hops. Flavors of ripe citrus, balsam pine and mango slather the tastebuds with every sip of this tremendously tasty turbid treat!

Barrel Brothers Haze Whiz Hazy India Pale Ale has an alcohol content of 7.1% by volume with 30 IBUs and I paid $4.43 for my can from Craftshack. I do not have any other pricing information available. My sample was stamped CANNED ON 04/14/21 and I drank it on May 31st of 202, so it was quite fresh indeed.

Barrel Brothers Haze Whiz Hazy India Pale Ale pours to a hazy orange color with a slight tint of yellow. The head is thick and fluffy, and the nose is big citrusy with hints of leafy green hops. Taking a sip, the beer is so citrusy, I get orange and grapefruit flesh and bitter rind. It is permeated with dank leafy vegetal herbal hops aromas and finished with a respectable bitter finish. Leaves a lingering herbal minty bitterness on the palate that is outstanding.

I was not expecting this beer to be as good as it was, though I am not sure what I was expecting, really. I would absolutely buy it again, however.

And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
