Ballast point is Beer of he Month! It’s August, 2018 and Ballast Point Brewing is featured as beer of the month at Taco Mac. That means each Thursday night a different glass with the brewery logo is yours free when you order a Ballast Point featured beer. I’m enjoying a Ballast Point Aloha Sculpin tonight, and I’m here to tell you about it.
This is a version of the classic Sculpin IPA brewed with Brux Trois yeast to throw off the tropical notes. I overheard some Ballast Point employees (wearing Ballast Point shirts mind you) coaching some of the Taco Mac staff. Once they dispersed, I assumed they might mingle amongst the guests, but they didn’t. That was a miss, Ballast Point. Good way to promote your brand!
Ballast point says about the Aloha Sculpin:
With Aloha Sculpin, we used Brux Trois yeast to turn our award-winning IPA into a tropical oasis, with bright and refreshing notes of mango, pineapple, and guava.
Ballast Point Aloha Sculpin has an alcohol content of 7% by volume with 70 IBUs. I paid $7.50 for a 23-ounce mug at Taco Mac (with a free glass) and it runs $12.99 a six-pack in bottles.
My mug of Ballast Point Aloha Sculpin arrived brilliant golden orange in color with a thick fluffy head of foam and mango and pineapple in the nose. Taking a sip the beer has a smooth malty palate, more mango and pineapple joined by bitter grapefruit rind which intensifies into the long dry finish. Went quite well with a plate of Taco Mac's signature wings.
Happy IPA day (it’s IPA week here).
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
