So I found a can of Aviator Frost Nipper Ale Brewed with Spices in one of my beer fridges, and I drank it. I bought it last year and stuck it in DBR (that’s Dedicated Beer Refrigerator) Prime, my oldest one of the three. I have a dorm fridge in my bedroom, one in my office/guest bedroom and a full sized one in my garage. Sometimes, I lose beers in them. Like this time.
Anyway, I noticed the beer while searching through for something to drink just before a Pats game and Aviator Frost Nipper won the prize. I don’t know if they’re making it this year, as it’s not listed on their website. Total Wine shows it as out of stock, although it may just be early in the season.
From the can label:
A fine collection of traditional fall spices makes Frost Nipper a great addition to the season. Frost Nipper is a bit darker than most brown ales and has a combination of Perle and Willamette hops to provide a contrasting intensity to the fall spices.
Aviator Frost Nipper Ale Brewed with Spices has an alcohol content of 7.3% by volume with 45 IBUs. It’s made with 2-row pale, wheat, chocolate, and special B malts according to the label. Total Wine sells it for $9.99 a six-pack when they have it, which I think is pretty reasonable.
Aviator Frost Nipper Ale Brewed with Spices pours to a dark brown color with a thick creamy head and a spicy nose hinting at cinnamon and nutmeg and perhaps ginger. Taking a sip, the beer has a firm cookie maltiness with more of the spices the nose promised. This is delicious, a big malty Christmas cookie of a beer.
If I see this back out for 2017, I’m all over it folks.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
