Black Gold Schwarzbier

Here’s a beer that I was all over when I saw it on tap at Stout’s Growlers: Arches Black Gold Schwarzbier. I love Arches Brewing of Hapeville, Georgia. I’ve never had a beer I did not like from them, and of course, I love Schwarzbier. So a Schwarzbier from Arches? Done deal. I added the crowler to my cart.

Schwarzbier is a German-style dark lager, a black lager really. It should be clean of fruity esters from bottom fermentation and lagering, and display roasty notes from the malts used. Arches hit all the criteria I am looking for with their Black Gold Schwarzbier.

Arches says:

Built on a traditional Schwarzbier base, this German dark lager blends light notes of roast and chocolate with a floral and spicy hops. A subtle hop profile featuring noble German hops provides just enough bitterness to balance the beer’s signature roast character. While dark in color, Black Gold drinks incredibly light and sessionable.

Arches Black Gold Schwarzbier has an alcohol content of 5.3% by volume and I paid $10.50 for my crowler at Stout’s. That’s less than the $5.50 a pint it sells for at the brewery.

Arches Black Gold Schwarzbier pours to a solid black color with a thick creamy tan head and a delightful soft roasty nose. Taking a sip, the beer is medium in body, smooth and drinkable, gently roasty with a hint of smoke and a balancing roasty finish.

Arches Black Gold Schwarzbier does drink easy, and I like that about it.  It’s full of flavor at the same time, and I like that too. Why not try it yourself? I think you’ll find you’ve struck black gold with a pint of this one.

Glad I tried it?  T

Would I rebuy it??
