So Anchor it is, not least of all because of the fact that Michael and
Anchor’s founder, Fritz Maytag, were such good friends. If you ever have the
chance to see Jackson’s
Beer Hunter series
that first aired on the Discovery channel (and is now kicking around on VHS)
you really should. It’s truly a one of a kind production, and in one of the
segments you’ll see Jackson visiting the Anchor brewery and traveling around
with Fritz and company.
Update 11/4/2015 At Stout's Growlers here in Canton trying to decide what beer to take home, I chose 32-ounces of Anchor Porter-always a good decision (to quote Samuel Adams beer). The beer is as delicious as it ever was, and does not seem to have changed since Anchor was recently sold by Fritz Maytag. Thick and creamy in body, chocolaty and raisiny in the palate, roasty with a slightly grassy bitterness at the last.
This was $8.75 very well spent for a growler of this classic American porter.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
