Who wants to have an Office Party? I know I do. It’s Christmas after all, and what better way to celebrate than with an Office Party? Of course, if you don’t have an office party to go to this holiday season, you can always make your own at home with Abita Office Party Holiday Stout. This is Abita’s second winter seasonal brew, joining long-time favorite Abita Christmas Ale.
I enjoyed a 23-ounce mug of Abita Office Party at an impromptu office party at my Canton Taco Mac. A few coworkers and I met for beer and wings and good conversation, and Abita Office Party was the first beer I ordered up. This holiday spiced stout is a radical departure from the aforementioned Abita Christmas Ale, which has always been a simple, malty red ale or brown ale.
Abita says:
Spice up your holiday mix and mingle with this "best dressed" brew. Office Party is a holiday stout brewed with oats, pale, caramel, and chocolate malts, and is hopped with Willamette hops. Generous amounts of cocoa nibs, cinnamon, vanilla, and nutmeg are added to infuse the spirit of the holidays into this limited release.
Ingredients from the website:
Yeast: American Ale
Malt: Pale, Caramel, Chocolate, and Oats
Hops: Willamette
Abita Office Party Holiday Stout has an alcohol content of 6.8% by volume with 35 IBUs. I paid $7.50 for a 23-ounce mug at Taco Mac, and Total Wine sells it for $11.99 a six-pack. Both prices are a bit higher than normal for an Abita beer.
My mug of Abita Office Party Holiday Stout arrived jet-black in color with a thick creamy tan head and lots of spice in the nose (nutmeg and cinnamon most apparent). Taking a sip, the beer has a smooth roasted malt palate, with notes of chocolate and vanilla that recall a marshmallow Santa Claus. Drying nutmeg and cinnamon balance in the finish.
Tasty indeed, and a beer I’ll buy again for sure. Kudos to Abita for Complementing their Christmas Ale with this delightful stout rather than replacing it.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
