Mothertown Blonde Ale

Review Date 7/1/2018  By John Staradumsky

Day 2 of our vacation found us making the trek from Murphy, North Carolina to Cherokee in the same state. We had spent a day and night at the new Harrah’s casino in Murphy, and now we were spending a few more days and nights at Harrah’s Cherokee, which just celebrated it’s 20-year anniversary. One of the first things that I did was to scope out the beer selection.

Mothertown Blonde Ale from 7 Clans Brewing Company intrigued, so I ordered a pint. 7 Clans is an upstart, just launched in the spring of 2018 and contract brewing their beer at BearWaters Brewing in Canton, North Carolina. As the company tells it, they are a female-majority owned business of Eastern Band of Cherokee Indian members. I thought I would give them a try and lend them some support.

Of Mothertown Blonde Ale they say:

For Cherokees, our homeland is where life begins and the first sip of this ale is just that - a new beginning, a renewal for the soul. This rich, medium-bodied blonde is inspired by the original Cherokee mother, Selu, and incorporates a hint of corn to symbolize her eternal gift to the Cherokee. This blonde ale embodies the floral crispness of our homeland’s mountain air and serene spirit indicative of Selu herself.

7 Clans Blonde Ale is a malt-forward American Blonde Ale featuring rich, bready Vienna malt. Willamette hops provide a light floral presence and low bitterness for balance. This medium-bodied blonde is crisp with high drinkability.

I paid $5.61 for a pint at Harrah’s and the beer was running $10.99 a six-pack at the package store where I bought Hop-Rooted IPA, 7 Clans only other beer, the next day.

My cup of 7 Clans Mothertown Blonde Ale arrived a true blonde in color with a moderate head formation and a clean maltiness in the nose. This is your typical blonde ale, smooth and malty with a touch of corn in the palate and balanced but not bitter in the finish.

Mothertown Blonde Ale is meant to be an accessible yet flavorful unpretentious blonde ale. It succeeds at that, and I enjoyed it.

Glad I tried it?  T

Would I rebuy it??
