I hadn’t planned on going to Taco Mac tonight. Indeed, I had just been there Sunday (but you can never go to Taco Mac too often), and being the holiday season, I had planned a peaceful night at home listening to Christmas music, admiring my outside holiday lights, and of course sipping a few beers. Then, though, as I am always wont to do, I checked out the current draft list at the Canton location and saw it: Samuel Adams Rebel Juiced IPA.
Having just spent four hours in Atlanta traffic, I was ready for this too, but to my utter horror my server said they did not have it when I asked for it. Undaunted, I pointed it out to her on the printed draft menu. She said, “Yeah, somebody else showed me that earlier but we don’t have it.” My spirits sank, and I ordered another beer. Then, though, by some miracle, my server came running back and announced that Samuel Adams Rebel Juiced had just been tapped! Victory, then, snatched from the jaws of defeat!
I thought Samuel Adams Rebel Juiced was a draft-only beer, so somewhat hard to find, hence my mad dash to Taco Mac to try it before it was gone. Since then I received the bottle in the photo to right as a sample from Boston Beer. Thanks Sam Adams!
From the website:
Swirling with ripe aromas of mango and tropical fruits, this IPA is jam-packed with juicy, citrusy hops and mango juice. It’s as if we took fresh hops and mangos and put them in a juicer.
Ingredients from the website:
HOP VARIETIES: Zeus, Mosaic, Mandarina
MALT VARIETIES: Samuel Adams two-row pale malt blend
SPECIAL INGREDIENTS: Mango Juice
Samuel Adams Rebel Juiced IPA has an alcohol content of 6.2% by volume with 55 IBUs. It was a bargain at $5.50 for my 20-ounce mug at Taco Mac. Boston beer calls this a “Tropical IPA” (whatever that is), but the fruit is so prominent I call this a fruit beer.
That mug of Samuel Adams Rebel Juiced IPA arrived a bright orange color with a thick fluffy white head and juicy mango, peaches and citrus orange in the nose. Taking a sip, there’s a light caramel malty base, orange jello, mango, orange peel, and gently bitter herbal hops at the last. The fruit really bursts here and the hops support and accentuate nicely, making this a very tasty and refreshing beer indeed.
Samuel Adams Rebel Juiced I’m glad I found you, and I sure can’t wait to get juiced again.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
