New England IPA! Red Hare has a New England IPA! Doesn’t everybody though these days? Used to be everybody had a “session IPA”; now they have a New England IPA. I like the latter better, so kudos to Red Hare for rolling out their Soft J Juicy IPA. It’s only just hit the market and I ordered a mug at Taco Mac when I saw it on tap.
The “New England Style IPA” is usually very citrusy and, well, juicy and unfiltered to provide a hazy experience. Some are brewed with oats or have flour added to make them really hazy, such that you can’t see through them. I like that, myself. Your mileage may vary.
From the website:
Soft J IPA starts off with a super fruity nose, which is matched with a hazy pour. It hits your tongue with blasts of orange and tangerine, while a delicate bitterness carries through to the finish. This soft, creamy, y-uicy IPA is proof that words, beer, anything can start with a Soft J…and by way, no fruit was harmed in the making of this beer.
Red Hare Soft J Juicy IPA has an alcohol content of 6.8% by volume and I paid $6 for a 23-ounce mug at Taco Mac. Total Wine sells it for $8.99 a six-pack in cans.
My mug of Soft J Juicy IPA arrived a hazy orange amber color with a medium head and bold citrus in the nose. Taking a sip the beer offers light malt but vibrant juicy tangerine and orange citrus and a zesty orange peel bitterness with an herbal dry grassy bitter finish. I want more malt but otherwise a tasty beer, and the price is right.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
