Good Gourd Imperial Pumpkin Ale
Review Date 10/12/2025 By John Staradumsky
Do you know what the hardest part about being me is? Finding the beer glass that matches the beer I want to drink. You see, I bought a can of Cigar City Good Gourd Imperial Pumpkin Ale at Total Wine, and I really wanted to drink it, but I couldn’t find my Cigar City pint glass. My OCD would not allow me to drink it from anything else.
Finally, I was determined to locate it on a fine October morning, and I succeeded. I enjoyed the beer that afternoon, and the rest is history. Tampa’s Cigar City does not do anything in half measures, and Good Gourd is no exception. It’s a delicious, full bodied pumpkin ale that immediately struck my fancy.
From the can label:
A liquid monument to the glory of the pumpkin, the most noble of all the gourds, this Imperial Pumpkin Ale is brewed with cinnamon, allspice, cloves, nutmeg and vanilla to emulate the flavors of a decadent, piquant pumpkin pie. The gourd is good, indeed.
Cigar City Good Gourd Imperial Pumpkin Ale has an alcohol content of 8.8% by volume and 28 IBUs. So says my can, for which I paid $4.49 at Total Wine. I should have picked up a four pack instead, because it was $10.99, not much more than another single. The beer is excellent, too, and now I wish I had bought more of it. My can is stamped CANNED 08/11/2025.
Cigar City Good Gourd Imperial Pumpkin Ale pours to a cloudy dark brown color with sweet cookie malts and pumpkin spice. Taking a sip the beer is medium in body with dark cookie malts, vegetal pumpkin, spicy cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove. Candied fruits, mince pie, and brown sugar all take turns leading into a dry spicy finish.
The pumpkin really pops here, and I love that, and the spices are in perfect proportion to the sweet malts. Really delicious and the next time I see it, I will be grabbing more than a single my friends.
Glad I tried it?

Would I rebuy it??
